MOUNTAIN LAW:

According to Ministerial Decree no. 2020-1264, the Mountain Law requires vehicles in most European countries, including France, to be equipped with snow chains or snow socks, or 4 tires marked “”“”3PMSF“”“”, from 01/11 to 31/03 of each year, in order to drive in mountainous areas; this concerns 48 departments in France. Failure to comply with this law may result in a €135 fine and vehicle immobilization. If you see the M9z sign “”“”Chaînes à neige obligatoires“”“” in mountainous areas, only chains or snow socks guarantee access to mountain ranges and passes.

Furthermore, the use of metal snow chains on snow-free roads is strictly forbidden, to avoid damaging the road surface.

Insurance: According to regulations, insurance companies are entitled to refuse compensation in the event of an accident linked to the non-use of snow chains or socks, on the grounds of negligence on the part of the driver and non-compliance with road safety rules.
